Blok M Parking Operator's Licence Expired for 3 Years, Yet Still Generating Rp 3 Billion per Month
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The validity period of the parking management permit issued to Best Parking has been known to have expired since 2023. This fact was only revealed during the meeting of the Jakarta DPRD’s Special Committee on Parking. Head of the Parking Unit at the Jakarta Transport Department, Massdes Arouffy, stated that his side had only recently learned that the parking operator’s permit had lapsed. “Yes, so we only found out together, it turns out they were supposed to renew the parking permit. But apparently, they didn’t come, we don’t know for whatever reasons they didn’t renew the permit,” Massdes said when contacted by Kompas.com by phone on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Massdes explained that his side only plays a role in issuing technical recommendations to PTSP before the administrative permit is issued. “Well, that’s rechecked according to the provisions. No violations, then the technical recommendation is issued from us, from the Parking UPT. Then, that technical recommendation is sent back to PTSP,” he clarified. He revealed that there has been no automatic warning system regarding the validity period of parking management permits so far. Therefore, the status of Best Parking’s permit was only known to be problematic during the special committee meeting. According to him, there is a possibility that other shopping centres are experiencing similar issues with expired parking operator permits. However, he has not detailed the locations in question. Nevertheless, Massdes stated, the operator should no longer be allowed to operate.
