Blok M Becomes a Favourite Spot for People to Hang Out During the Long Weekend...
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Blok M area is once again filled with visitors during the Ascension of Jesus Christ long weekend.
Since Saturday afternoon (16 May 2026), the atmosphere in several parts of the area has been lively with people coming to stroll and enjoy the culinary offerings.
The crowds can be seen in shopping centres, restaurants, and pedestrian areas which remain crowded despite the rain.
Visitors come from various age groups, from young people to families.
One visitor, Raka (26), said that he came with his friends to enjoy the atmosphere of Blok M during the long weekend.
“In fact, that’s part of the fun, the atmosphere is very lively,” said Raka when met by Kompas.com in Blok M, Saturday.
He believes that Blok M offers a different experience compared to ordinary shopping centres because there are many activities that can be done in one area.
“When you’re feeling tired from work, coming to a crowded place like this feels more refreshing than just hanging out at the mall. Now Blok M also has many options, so even though it’s crowded, there are still things to see or try,” he said.
Raka said that he often spends time in the Little Tokyo area and the culinary area around Blok M.
According to him, the area feels more lively because it is interconnected and has many choices of places.
“In my opinion, what’s good about Blok M is that this area is all connected. You can find coffee, food, thrift shops, or just sit and chat,” he said.
Besides its lively atmosphere, easy access to public transportation is also a reason why the Blok M area continues to be crowded with visitors.
Raka believes that the presence of the MRT and Transjakarta makes it easier for people from various parts of Jakarta to come to the area.
“It’s easy to take the MRT, there’s also Transjakarta. Plus, there are endless places to hang out,” he said.
