Blockchain-Based Platform Readies Funding for National Film Industry
Funding remains one of the main challenges facing the Indonesian film industry. High production and distribution costs, along with limited access to financing sources, often hinder the creation of new works. Amid rapid digital technology development, various innovations have emerged to cut through these barriers, including through digital funding schemes. A blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) based platform, Show Token, was officially launched in Indonesia on Friday (26/6). The platform focuses on building a funding and distribution ecosystem for entertainment content, particularly the film industry, with a massive funding commitment of USD 100 million for the entertainment industry in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. “We view Indonesia not as a consumer market, but as an epicentre of talent that has long lacked liquidity and an efficient distribution system. We are here to resolve that inefficiency,” said Show Token COO, Joshua Khubani, in a press statement received on Friday (26/6). Technically, this digital asset operates on the Ethereum network (ERC-20), a blockchain ecosystem. Token holders (project backers) will enjoy real-world utilities, ranging from Decentralised Executive Producing (the right to support film funding) to Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Access. In June 2026, the funding platform made its debut by financing the horror film ‘Cerita Lila’, which successfully attracted 500,000 viewers in its first week of screening, and is set to continue with the film ‘Sihir Tanah Kubur’ next July. This initial step will be followed by a production funding target for more than 30 horror and drama film titles throughout the year. The ambitious project is carried out through close collaboration with several production houses. Films ready to be supported include ‘Seporsi Mie Ayam Sebelum Mati’, ‘Taboo’, ‘Siti Vampire’, and ‘Sebelum Tiga Puluh’. “Indonesia has an extraordinary wealth of narratives, but often our steps are halted in the domestic market due to a lack of global infrastructure. We want to build a digital ecosystem that allows the nation’s works to be accessed and appreciated more widely,” said Show Token CEO, Akshay Melwani. Through its official launch in Indonesia, Akshay hopes the platform’s presence can encourage collaboration between film industry players, the technology community, and various stakeholders in utilising blockchain and AI technology to support the development of the national film industry.
