Blitar to host national assembly

JAKARTA: A national meeting that will bring together politicians and public figures who are concerned about the country's future will take place in the East Java town of Blitar between June 1 and June 21.

The event's chief organizer, Roch Basoeki, said on Wednesday that the assembly would invite people from all walks of life to discuss the future of the nation.

"We are not going to talk about power politics or governmental affairs, but how to enhance national unity," he said.

Initiators of the event also include legislator Meilono Soewondo and former Cabinet ministers Hayono Isman and Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

The organizing committee has prepared a series of seminars and art exhibitions to be held during the event.

Basoeki said invitations to attend the meeting had been sent to the President, Vice President, the People's Consultative Assembly speaker, the House speaker, leaders of the state institutions, religious leaders, intellectuals, leaders of political parties and mass organizations. -- Antara
