Blitar Firecracker Explosion on Hot Air Balloon Kills One, Injures Two

Three residents of Tambakan Village, Gandusari Subdistrict, Blitar Regency are suspected victims of a firecracker explosion attached to a hot air balloon. One person died, two others sustained injuries.

‘Confirmed, still under investigation,’ said Blitar Police Residency Public Relations Head Aiptu Muheni, as reported by detikJatim on Wednesday (27/5/2026).

Muheni stated there were three victims in the incident, with one reported dead upon arrival at the hospital. The other two sustained injuries.

‘This is the information available; they have been evacuated and are receiving treatment at Ngudi Waluyo Wlingi Hospital,’ he added.

Regarding the cause of the firecracker explosion, Muheni declined to provide further details, stating that the Blitar Police Residency Criminal Investigation Unit had already visited the scene.

‘The cause has not yet been confirmed, as the investigation is ongoing. Officers are at the scene, please allow time,’ he concluded.
