Laksa Johor: A story titled Culinary festival takes regional
journey via laksa on Sunday, Jan. 23, page 10 contains an
incorrect statement that relates the use of spaghetti instead of
rice or egg noodles in Laksa Johor to the sultan of Johor.
According to Datin Amy Hamidon, the wife of Malaysian Ambassador
to Indonesia Dato' Hamidon Ali, Laksa Johor is different from
other Malaysian laksa probably due to Johor's history as a modern
state and the considerable Western ties of its people, which
leaves them open to Western influences. Those wanting to taste
various Malaysian laksa can do so at the Laksa of Malaysia Fest
at the Intercontinental Midplaza Jakarta. The festival runs
through Jan. 27.
