Black smoke billows over the Cibinong Flyover, allegedly caused by a person with a mental health condition burning rubbish
BOGOR, Kompas.com – Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising high around the Cibinong Flyover in Bogor on Saturday, 7 March 2026. A video posted on Instagram @jabodetabek24info shows dense smoke obscuring part of the area and visible from afar. Acep Sajidin, the Camat (district head) of Cibinong, said checks at the scene indicated the smoke originated from rubbish being burned, suspected to have been carried out by a person with mental health issues who frequently stays in the area. A local resident, Kastro, said the plume first appeared around 14:30 WIB. He suspects the burn was carried out by the person who often stays beneath the flyover, as there was no one else nearby. ‘He is there almost every day,’ Kastro said, adding that the person sometimes does such things for mischief. The smoke suddenly thickened and billowed, drawing the attention of nearby residents, but lasted only about 30 minutes before dissipating. Kompas.com observed piles of rubbish beneath the flyover and a man described as having a mental health condition wandering the area. The walls around the site appeared blackened by soot.
