A black floral arrangement sent by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stood out among dozens of congratulatory wreaths at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, marking the capital’s 499th anniversary. The monochrome arrangement, featuring a black background with white lettering, contrasted sharply with the brightly coloured tributes from various institutions lining the hall’s courtyard.

Based on observations at the site, the arrangement bore the message: “Happy 499th Anniversary to the City of Jakarta. Kang Dedi Mulyadi, Governor of West Java.”

A security officer at City Hall said the floral tributes began arriving on Sunday evening, though he could not confirm exactly when the arrangement from Dedi Mulyadi, popularly known as KDM, was delivered. He estimated dozens of arrangements were received, noting that they often spill over to the outside area because the indoor space is insufficient.

The Jakarta Provincial Government marked the city’s 499th anniversary with a ceremony at the National Monument on Monday morning, followed by a plenary session at the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives building. The administration also planned to inaugurate the Jakarta International Stadium KRL Station and a pedestrian bridge connecting the stadium to the Ancol area as anniversary gifts for the city.
