BKSAP Urges Objective UN Investigation into Israel's Attack on UNIFIL
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) has urged the United Nations (UN) to investigate objectively the Israeli attack on the peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, UNIFIL.
“Indeed, we are asking the UN to conduct an investigation and it must be neutral, meaning objective. It should not be that because of lobbying from America or Israel, it fails to show that Israel is the perpetrator,” said BKSAP Chairman of the House of Representatives Syahrul Aidi Maazat in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, the attack on peacekeeping forces not only violates international law but also damages the basic principles of global cooperation that have been upheld through the UN.
He also strongly condemned the attack that caused three Indonesian soldiers to fall.
“We condemn it because it is a violation of international law and it does not respect the UN institution (UN), which is the place where we agree together,” he said.
He further stated that Indonesia views that the party responsible for the attack needs to be revealed clearly and must not be influenced by certain political interests.
“We (BKSAP) Alhamdulillah firmly state that Israel is the perpetrator because the position of the peacekeeping forces is a position that makes it impossible for Lebanon or Hezbollah to attack,” he said.
Therefore, he encouraged that the case be brought to the international legal channel as a form of upholding justice. Firm steps are needed so that Indonesia remains consistent in upholding law and international agreements.
“Because if this is left alone, Indonesia will appear weak, so Indonesia must take a firmer stance,” said Syahrul.
It is known that three TNI soldiers serving in the UNIFIL contingent fell due to the Israeli attack on Sunday (29/3) and Monday (30/3). They are Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, Captain (Inf) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
