BKSAP Strengthens Synergy Between Parliament and NGOs, Supports Palestinian Struggle
The Indonesian House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP DPR RI) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Synergy of Indonesian Solidarity for Palestine: One Heart, One Voice: Indonesia United for Palestine” in the Diplomacy Room, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 9 April 2026. This activity serves as a strategic step in consolidating various societal elements to strengthen support for the Palestinian struggle for independence.
The FGD featured the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari, along with various community organisations (ormas), humanitarian institutions, and communities that have been active in Palestinian solidarity issues. BKSAP Chairman Syahrul Aidi Maazat emphasised that this forum is an important space to unite efforts between parliament and societal elements so that the solidarity movement does not proceed in isolation, but rather in a coordinated and mutually reinforcing manner.
“This FGD serves as a container for consolidating the Palestinian solidarity movement, so it does not proceed independently. We want all parties to move in unison, complementing each other, and creating a broader impact,” said Syahrul.
He explained that there are currently hundreds of organisations working on the Palestinian issue through various activities, from public education and fundraising to humanitarian aid. However, without good coordination, the potential for programme overlaps and the ineffectiveness of the movement becomes a significant challenge.
Therefore, BKSAP encourages the mapping of these organisations, both in terms of programmes, targets, and working areas. Through this mapping, it is hoped that untouched areas can be identified, so that the needs of Palestinian society can be accommodated more evenly.
“We want to see the whole picture, from the many activities carried out, which ones have been extensively done and which are still lacking. That way, this solidarity movement can be more strategic, on target, and reach all levels of society,” he stated.
In the FGD, it was also emphasised that the Palestinian issue is a global humanitarian concern that transcends religious, ethnic, or specific group boundaries. Therefore, the participation of all societal elements, including the younger generation and communities from diverse backgrounds, is very important in broadening support.
BKSAP also expressed its commitment to continue facilitating synergy between parliament and community organisations, whether in the form of public education, strengthening humanitarian narratives, fundraising, or more organised coordination of aid distribution to Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia conveyed his appreciation for the support provided by Indonesian society. He admitted to being impressed by the various forms of solidarity, which he assessed as not limited to demonstration actions, but also manifested through various innovations, educational campaigns, and creative movements involving the younger generation.
According to him, support from Indonesia becomes one of the very meaningful moral strengths for the Palestinian people amid the various challenges they face.
Syahrul also emphasised that Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian independence is a constitutional mandate that must not be ignored. He called on all elements of the nation to continue maintaining consistency and strengthening contributions to that struggle.
“We must not stop. As long as Palestine is not independent, all components of the nation must continue to contribute and take a role in this struggle,” he said.
