Jakarta — The head of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian Parliament, Syahrul Aidi Maazat, received a visit from Palestinian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Abdalfatah A.K. Alsattari and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continue supporting the Palestinian people.

“Indonesia remains and will always stand by the Palestinian people until independence,” said Syahrul in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

During the meeting held at the Nusantara III Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 10 March, the two discussed the relationship between Indonesia and Palestine, which is built on the basis of history, solidarity, and humanitarian values.

According to Syahrul, Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestine is demonstrated through parliamentary diplomacy, societal solidarity, and humanitarian cooperation.

He emphasised that Indonesia will stand together with Palestine in striving for independence, justice, and sustainable peace.

“Whatever dynamics may occur at present, Palestinian statehood is a non-negotiable principle for Indonesia,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador Abdalfatah A.K. Alsattari expressed that Palestine appreciates Indonesia’s stance and believes that Indonesia’s presence on the Board of Peace (BoP) also supports his nation’s independence.

According to Abdalfatah, the strategic role of BKSAP DPR RI in conducting diplomatic lobbying at world parliamentary sessions, both international and regional, as well as engaging in bilateral diplomacy with various countries, was an important reason for his organisation’s visit to the institution.

He also conveyed gratitude to the Indonesian Parliament, which has consistently been vocal in championing Palestinian sovereignty in international forums.

The discussion during the meeting also addressed the role of Indonesian youth in independence. Abdalfatah noted that Palestinian youth could learn from Indonesian youth during the Youth Pledge era, in which unity was the means to achieve independence.
