Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with one of its principal agenda items being a discussion on the dynamics and implications of Indonesia’s participation in the Board of Peace (BoP).

BKSAP Chairman Syahrul Aidi Maazat affirmed that every instance of Indonesia’s involvement in international forums must remain grounded in constitutional principles and the country’s independent and active foreign policy doctrine.

“Indonesia’s presence in various international forums, including the BoP, must be ensured to remain consistent with our constitutional mandate and our commitment to Palestinian independence. Our diplomacy must not lose its moral compass,” Syahrul said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He made the remarks following a coordination meeting held at the DPR/MPR/DPD building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (19 February), which was attended by all BKSAP members from the various parliamentary factions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by the Deputy Foreign Minister, the Ministry’s Secretary-General, and other senior officials.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha C. Nasir presented Indonesia’s diplomatic achievements throughout 2025, including the strengthening of Indonesia’s position in various multilateral forums, as well as policy projections and diplomatic activities planned for 2026.

Emphasis was placed on peace diplomacy, the protection of Indonesian citizens abroad, and Indonesia’s active role in strategic global issues. During the question-and-answer session, queries were raised regarding Indonesia’s involvement in the BoP.

On the BoP matter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Indonesia’s membership does not automatically signify recognition of Israeli occupation practices. Rather, the involvement is positioned as part of Indonesia’s diplomatic endeavour to maintain a presence in international processes aimed at supporting independence and justice for the Palestinian people.

The coordination meeting also discussed commitments to strengthen the synergy between BKSAP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs going forward. This strengthening of synergy encompasses, firstly, the alignment of diplomatic agendas and priorities between the government and parliament; secondly, regular coordination and information exchange on strategic issues; and thirdly, support for the development of inter-parliamentary networks and partnerships to bolster Indonesia’s position at the global level.

Through this more intensive coordination mechanism, it is hoped that government diplomacy and parliamentary diplomacy can proceed in tandem and mutually reinforce one another in advancing national interests and Indonesia’s contribution to world peace.
