BKPM: STT GDC Data Centre Expansion Strengthens Indonesia's Digital Investment Appeal

JAKARTA – The government believes the expansion of STT GDC’s data centre campus in Jakarta will strengthen Indonesia’s position as a destination for digital infrastructure investment in the region. The project is considered aligned with the growing need for cloud services, AI, and national data centres. Saribua Siahaan, Director of Investment Promotion for Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, said the prospects for Indonesia’s data centre industry remain very significant. The growth of internet users and adoption of digital technology are the main drivers. According to Saribua, government regulatory support and the large domestic market further enhance Indonesia’s appeal to investors. Indonesia’s geographical position is also an added value in the regional digital supply chain. “The potential for data centre development in Indonesia is so significant because it is driven by rapid digital transformation and ever-increasing demand for information technology infrastructure,” Saribua said in Cikarang, West Java, on Wednesday (10/6/2026). Furthermore, the expansion of the STT Jakarta campus is expected to attract more global cloud service providers and AI companies to enter Indonesia. Their presence could potentially create new economic activity and high-skilled jobs. In addition to infrastructure investment, STT GDC is also strengthening digital talent development. The company stated it is collaborating with vocational institutions such as ATMI Cikarang to prepare the data centre sector workforce. The programme includes industry-based training, international certification, and direct internships at operational data centre facilities. This step is taken to address the ever-increasing need for specialist workers. Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Kwok Fook Seng, assessed that STT GDC’s investment reflects the close digital economy cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore. Data centres are considered an important foundation for the region’s digital economic growth. “STT GDC’s long-term investment in Indonesia through the expansion of the STT Jakarta Campus reflects the strong and growing partnership between Singapore and Indonesia,” Kwok said at the same occasion. On the other hand, STT GDC is also targeting the Jakarta campus operations to run with net-zero carbon emissions from day one. This strategy is supported by the utilisation of renewable energy and the implementation of higher energy efficiency standards.
