BKPM strengthens connectivity of New Palembang Port through toll integration
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is strengthening logistics connectivity in South Sumatra through plans to integrate toll roads leading to Tanjung Carat Port or New Palembang Port.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu, at the MoU signing event for the project in Jakarta on Wednesday, stated that the cooperation involves several state-owned enterprises (BUMNs).
According to him, this step is expected to improve the efficiency of commodity distribution while reducing logistics costs in the region.
“So today we are signing an agreement for cooperation on the planned toll connectivity integration. This is also in the framework of supporting and following up on the development plans for Tanjung Carat Port,” said Todotua.
He mentioned that the benefits of the project will not only be felt in South Sumatra but also in other provinces such as Jambi, which can later utilise the toll road and port.
Todotua explained that the development of this connectivity has two main objectives. First, to increase the volume of commodity distribution from South Sumatra to domestic markets and exports. Second, to streamline logistics costs and strengthen the supply chain in the region.
He added that the toll route to Tanjung Carat Port will be connected to the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road backbone, which has currently reached South Sumatra and is targeted to connect to Jambi by the end of the year.
“There will be an additional toll line leading to Tanjung Carat, approximately 80 kilometres of toll road,” he said.
