BKPM States Cooperation with the US Will Not Affect Indonesia’s Independence Tuesday, 24 February 2026 | 22:30 WIB Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Coordinating Agency for Investment (BKPM) has affirmed that trade and investment relations between Indonesia and the United States remain in line with the principle of an independent and active foreign policy, while also maintaining the independence of national policy. Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, stated that the government continues to maintain communication with various countries, including the US, in order to strengthen economic and investment cooperation. “We still adhere to the principle of cooperation (independent and active); trade and other matters are conducted on an independent and active basis. It is necessary to open communication and cooperation with the US and other institutions,” said Todotua, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (24/2/2026). He emphasised that openness in communicating with international partners will not diminish the government’s independence in determining national policy. According to Todotua, Indonesia’s independence remains a priority in all forms of global cooperation. “However, our government’s independence remains. There is no issue. Our President is a clear figure. President Prabowo is a clear figure,” he said. He added that the government ensures that there is no external interference in national economic policy, even though communication and cooperation in trade and investment continue to be strengthened. “Our independence is our independence. There is no interference. The fact that we must open communication in the context of trade and investment is a necessity,” said Todotua. According to him, increased international communication is also carried out to improve the investment climate and strengthen economic cooperation strategies so that Indonesia becomes more competitive at the global level. “This is part of a strategic approach. Some requirements have been relaxed,” he said. He explained that this policy still considers the balance of trade between Indonesia and its partner countries, so that the impact on investment flows is considered insignificant. “But there are also calculations, the trade we take from them. It doesn’t have too much influence,” said Todotua. He also affirmed that the government has a high level of confidence in the prospects for national investment. “We have an extraordinary level of confidence in this investment,” he said.
