Batam (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has reminded freight forwarding service (JPT) businesses to comply with goods traffic regulations in the Batam Free Trade and Free Port Zone (KPBPB), Riau Islands.

Director of Investment Deregulation at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Dendy Apriandi, stressed the importance of regulatory compliance, including the implementation of Business Identification Numbers (NIB), General Import Identification Numbers (API-U) and Producer Import Identification Numbers (API-P).

"Business operators establishing a business entity must do so specifically for freight forwarding services only, in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 31 of 2021 on the Administration of the Shipping Sector," said Dendy in an official statement received in Batam on Wednesday.

The remarks were delivered during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Implementation of Goods Traffic in the Batam KPBPB, organised by the Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam).

Director of Goods Traffic and Investment at BP Batam, Rully Syah Rizal, explained that business operators in Batam are required to follow applicable regulations, particularly BP Batam Head Regulation Number 25 of 2021.

"Business processes are highly dynamic, especially in the Batam KPBPB, so evaluation of applicable provisions must always be carried out to create a conducive business climate," he said.

He expressed hope that the FGD would produce alignment in business sectors and stronger coordination between agencies.

"The output we expect is alignment of business sectors and increased coordination with relevant agencies, particularly regarding the strengthening of oversight over goods traffic activities in Batam City," he added.

Head of Customs and Excise Services and Facilities Division I at the Type B Batam Customs Main Service Office, M. Rofiudzdzikri, affirmed that oversight of goods entering the KPBPB is the responsibility of BP Batam.

"JPT operators holding active import identification numbers are only permitted to import goods for their own needs in order to support their business activities. To that end, we hope BP Batam can promptly formulate a control mechanism for the entry of goods by JPT operators," he said.
