BKPM Records 7.2% Investment Growth, Downstreaming as Main Supporter
The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) recorded Indonesia’s investment realisation for the first quarter of 2026 at Rp498.8 trillion. This figure grew 7.2 per cent year-on-year compared to the same period in the previous year. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the investment realisation also saw a slight increase of 0.4 per cent compared to the fourth quarter of 2025. Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, stated that this achievement has significantly impacted job creation. “The investment target for 2026 is Rp2,041.3 trillion. The first quarter 2026 investment realisation is approximately 24.4% of the total 2026 investment target of Rp2,041.3 trillion,” Rosan said during a press conference quoted on Saturday, 25 April 2026. From an employment perspective, investments at the start of this year successfully absorbed 706,569 workers, an increase of 18.9 per cent compared to the same period last year. In terms of sources, the investment realisation between Foreign Investment (PMA) and Domestic Investment (PMDN) was relatively balanced. PMA recorded Rp250.0 trillion or 50.1 per cent, while PMDN amounted to Rp248.8 trillion or 49.9 per cent. Both grew by 8.5 per cent and 6.0 per cent annually, respectively. Investment distribution was also fairly even between Java and outside Java regions. Realisation on Java Island reached Rp247.5 trillion or 49.6 per cent, while outside Java was slightly higher at Rp251.3 trillion or 50.4 per cent. Both grew by 7.9 per cent and 6.5 per cent, respectively. From the sector perspective, the basic metal industry and metal goods became the largest contributors with an investment value of Rp69.4 trillion. This was followed by the other services subsector at Rp64.2 trillion, mining at Rp51.9 trillion, housing and industrial estates at Rp48.0 trillion, and transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications at Rp45.4 trillion. Meanwhile, investments in the downstreaming sector also showed positive performance. Of the total realisation of Rp498.8 trillion, Rp147.5 trillion or 29.6 per cent came from downstreaming activities. “The investment achievement related to downstreaming is quite significant, increasing 8.2% compared to the same period last year,” said Rosan.
