BKPM Records 16.6 Percent Investment Growth in First Half of 2015
The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) recorded that the value of investment in the first semester of 2015 reached Rp 259.7 trillion, an increase of 16.6 percent compared to the same period last year. BKPM Head Franky Sibarani claimed that investment continued to grow despite the economic slowdown. “Investment remains vibrant and growing even as the economy slows,” Franky said during a press conference in South Jakarta on Monday, 27 July. Furthermore, Franky noted that investors are showing interest in investing outside Java, reflected by a 25.5 percent increase in investment. “Based on region, investment outside Java in the first semester of 2015 amounted to Rp 115.2 trillion, an increase of 25.5 percent compared to the same period last year, which was Rp 91.7 trillion,” he explained. Meanwhile, Franky stated that investment in Java reached Rp 144.5 trillion. Deputy for Investment Implementation Control at BKPM, M. Azhar Lubis, added that the investment realisation in the first semester of 2015 comprised domestic direct investment (PMDN) of Rp 85.5 trillion, up 17.4 percent from the previous Rp 74.8 trillion. “Meanwhile, foreign direct investment amounted to Rp 174.2 trillion, an increase of 16.1 percent compared to the first semester of 2014, which was Rp 150 trillion,” he concluded.
