BKPM: NIB Not Just a Formality, It's a Weapon for MSMEs to Access Financing
The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM has highlighted a common mistake still made by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially those run by women. Many business owners still do not possess a Business Identification Number (NIB), even though this document is key to accessing government coaching and financing facilities.
Deputy for Investment Climate Development at the Ministry, Riyatno, stressed that business legality is an essential foundation for MSMEs to grow and scale up. “What MSME players often forget is legality. The NIB is an official identity that the business is legal. By having an NIB, opportunities to receive coaching from the central and regional governments are wide open, including easier access to financing,” Riyatno said during a national partnership policy dissemination event titled ‘UMKM SCALE HUB: From Street Vendors to Empowered’ in Banyumas, Central Java.
Riyatno stated that NIB ownership is not merely an administrative requirement. The document opens up greater opportunities for MSME players to receive mentoring, training, and access to financial institutions. The event was attended by 30 women MSME entrepreneurs and was organised by the Ministry in collaboration with the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Ministry, PT Pertamina (Persero), and the Benih Baik Indonesia Foundation (YBBI).
On the same occasion, Advisor to DWP of the Ministry, Ayu Heni Rosan, emphasised the significant contribution of women in supporting the family economy. She noted that women MSME players must be able to adapt to technological developments and increasingly tight business competition. “Women have an extraordinary role. Many mothers in various regions manage their families while running a business. Empowered women will help build healthy and happy families, while also becoming role models for their children,” she said.
The talk show also featured the Founder and CEO of Mutiara Handycraft, Irma Suyanti, who shared her experience of building a business as a person with a disability from Banyumas. Her business has successfully penetrated national and international markets despite facing various limitations.
Through the UMKM SCALE HUB programme, participants received training on various important aspects of business development. The materials covered business legality, financial management, marketing strategies, product hygiene, tax facilities, and strategic partnership opportunities. The programme is expected to encourage women MSMEs in Banyumas to increase their business scale and strengthen competitiveness, while utilising the various facilities available after obtaining an NIB.
