BKPM Issues Recommendations for 457 Companies to Bring in Foreign Experts

The Director of Investment Deregulation at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Yuliot, stated that many skilled workers from various companies returned to their home countries at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, leaving operations unable to function. Consequently, support is needed to get company operations running again, including permits or recommendations to bring skilled workers back to Indonesia. “There are companies whose skilled workers are still abroad, having returned to their home countries at the beginning of Covid-19. So they cannot carry out their operational activities and need support,” he said during the INDEF Mid-Year Review on Tuesday (21/7). Between 24 April and 17 July 2020, BKPM issued recommendations for 457 companies to bring in skilled workers, including investors. This involved 2,603 skilled workers and visits from 155 investors for the purpose of exploring investment activities. “This is a facility we provide as part of efforts to drive investment. There is also concern from several investors about carrying out investment activities, especially those related to industrial relocation,” he added. From these 457 companies, the potential investment being driven amounts to Rp 859.7 trillion, with the absorption of up to 237,269 workers. “If driven, this will certainly be able to create broader employment opportunities for Indonesian workers,” Yuliot concluded.
