BKPM: China Remains Indonesia's Largest Investor

The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is actively courting foreign investors to commit long-term capital in Indonesia. BKPM Head Franky Sibarani has been diligently visiting countries with high investment potential, including China. He stated that the BKPM is seriously targeting Chinese investment, having visited three cities—Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou—within a three-month period. These efforts have yielded commitments for investment plans in Indonesia worth USD 10.8 billion. “From these three visits, USD 10.8 billion in investment interest has been identified,” Franky said at the BKPM office on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, on Monday. According to Franky, China remains the largest investor in Indonesia, with the majority of investments directed towards the infrastructure sector. “Over the past six years, China’s investment commitments in Indonesia have continued to increase, reaching USD 22.678 billion this year, a 44 per cent rise,” Franky concluded.
