BKPM Chief Flooded with Complaints over Slow Business Licensing

The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has received numerous complaints from labour-intensive industry players, generally concerning the lengthy investment licensing process. These complaints have also extended to other sectors.

BKPM Chairman Franky Sibarani stated that his office will coordinate with business players and the government to simplify licensing. At the very least, he said, the implementation of one-stop licensing next month will reduce the burden on business players.

“Friends in the business world have conveyed various obstacles, not only at the central level but also in the regions, especially regarding licensing,” he said at the BKPM Office during the ‘Priority Sector Investment Press Conference’ in Jakarta, Monday (22/12).

He noted that licensing processes that often take a long time in the regions are usually related to business expansion and factory development. The slow process impacts the speed at which a company can grow.

“Of course, there are policies we will implement. In the short term, we will coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Manpower,” he explained.

Franky sees significant market potential for the growth of labour-intensive industries, provided it can be maintained and continuously encouraged through various facilities, including faster licensing.
