The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), in collaboration with PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), is strengthening partnerships between the corporate world and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to increase capacity, expand market access, and boost the competitiveness of local businesses in North Maluku.

Investment and industrial developments in North Maluku are creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to thrive. The presence of IWIP has contributed to this growth, providing a positive impact on Central Halmahera and the wider North Maluku region, while creating space for local businesses to participate in the industrial ecosystem.

This effort was realised through the Dissemination of National Business Partnership Policy for Investment, which brought together 16 of the 160 participating MSMEs with IWIP and several industrial park tenants in Ternate, North Maluku, on Tuesday (1/9).

The event provided MSMEs with access to partnership opportunities, financing, and industrial supply chains through the introduction of business profiles and capacities. The programme included a talk show titled “Strengthening the Ecosystem of Inclusive Partnership and Financing for MSMEs,” two business matching sessions, and an awards ceremony for five MSME partners of IWIP.

The event was opened by the Vice Governor of North Maluku, H. Sarbin Sehe, and continued by the Special Staff to the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM for the Acceleration of Downstreaming and Enhancement of National Entrepreneurs, Noor Sona Maesana Mushonnif.

Vice Governor H. Sarbin Sehe stated that the North Maluku Provincial Government continues to open doors for responsible investment while encouraging the development of regional potential, including in the marine, fishery, and plantation sectors. Investment growth is expected to provide broader benefits to the community and create more opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

“The government needs partners to collaborate in meeting regional needs and creating better economic growth. We want the investments developing in North Maluku to also open more opportunities for local entrepreneurs. We are also proud that the presence of IWIP has brought change to Central Halmahera,” said Sarbin Sehe.

These partnership opportunities were discussed more concretely through two business matching sessions. IWIP and its tenants presented their requirements for work and the procurement of goods and services through the Scope of Work (SoW) and Bill of Quantities (BoQ). MSMEs were given the opportunity to introduce their profiles, products, capacities, and business readiness, while discussing procurement requirements directly.

Special Staff to the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM for the Acceleration of Downstreaming and Enhancement of National Entrepreneurs, Noor Sona Maesana Mushonnif, stated that the growth of downstream industries must go hand-in-hand with the strengthening of national and regional entrepreneurs. In the second quarter of 2026, investment realisation in North Maluku reached IDR 40.2 trillion, positioning the province as the third-largest investment location in Indonesia.

“Through targeted partnerships, MSMEs not only gain market access but also the opportunity to improve their standards, scale, and competitiveness. This meeting needs to progress into purchase orders and cooperation agreements so that local entrepreneurs can grow alongside existing investments,” said Noor Sona.

The Director of Business Empowerment at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, Delfinur Rizчно Rizky Novihamzah, added that partnerships must go beyond mere commitments. The government is encouraging large business needs to be matched with potential local vendors who possess the necessary legality and business readiness, ensuring that the partnership process can be realised, monitored, and supervised. Collaboration between central and regional governments, associations, and the business world is vital to expanding MSME access to these opportunities.

IWIP’s General Manager of External Relations, Yudhi Santoso, stated that opportunities for local businesses remain open to meet various needs within the IWIP and tenant supply chains, ranging from food supplies, workwear, and operational needs to logistics and transport. In the second quarter of 2026, IWIP’s procurement realisation for MSMEs reached IDR 1.1 trillion, with 77.6 percent of IWIP’s spending occurring within North Maluku.

“IWIP wants more local MSMEs to be ready to enter and remain within the industrial supply chain. We are opening channels for communication and cooperation, while encouraging businesses to strengthen their legality, quality consistency, competitive pricing, punctuality, and service. These aspects are the foundation for long-term partnership growth,” said Yudhi.

As a form of appreciation for partners that have grown alongside the company, IWIP presented awards to PT Bangun Bumi Mahera as the Most Improved MSME Supplier, CV Sritimas Agro Silvae as the Best Responsive Supplier, CV Satu Tiga Berjaya as the Best Performing MSME Supplier, CV Semarak as the recipient of the Best Local Community Impact Award, and CV Abadi Jaya as the recipient of the Best Quality & Reliability Award.

Suhendra Sutjahja, President Director of CV Satu Tiga Berjaya—an IWIP partner in meat and seafood supply—shared his experience building a business from a small-scale supplier to meeting the company’s requirements. He noted that maintaining quality, meeting requirements, and continuously improving governance are essential parts of maintaining a partnership.

“Partnering with IWIP has been a learning process for us to work more organised, maintain quality, meet schedules, and improve business administration. Such opportunities provide market access while encouraging us to continuously enhance our ability to meet industrial needs,” said Suhendra.

The activity also encouraged synergy with the banking sector to expand access to financing for MSMEs.
