BKPM and IWIP Open Industrial Supply Chain Access for MSMEs
Ternate: The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), in collaboration with PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), is strengthening partnerships between the business sector and MSMEs in North Maluku. This effort is directed towards increasing the capacity of local entrepreneurs, expanding market access, and encouraging MSMEs to enter the industrial supply chain.
The strengthening of this partnership was conducted through the Dissemination of National Business Partnership Policy for Investment, an event that brought together 160 MSME players with IWIP and several tenants within the industrial estate in Ternate, North Maluku. The programme included a talk show themed ‘Strengthening the Partnership Ecosystem and Inclusive Financing for MSMEs’, two business matching sessions, and an awards ceremony for five MSME partners of IWIP.
The Vice Governor of North Maluku, H. Sarbin Sehe, stated that the regional government continues to create space for responsible investment while simultaneously driving the development of regional economic potential.
Noor Sona Maesana Mushonnif, Special Staff to the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM for Downstreaming Acceleration and National Entrepreneurship Enhancement, noted that the growth of downstreaming must go hand-in-hand with the strengthening of national and regional entrepreneurs. In the second quarter of 2026, investment realisation in North Maluku reached IDR 40.2 trillion, positioning the province as the third-largest investment location in Indonesia.
“Through targeted partnerships, MSMEs not only gain market access but also the opportunity to improve their standards, scale, and competitiveness. This meeting needs to progress into purchase orders and cooperation agreements so that local entrepreneurs can grow alongside existing investments,” Noor stated in a written release on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
Delfinur Rizky Novihamzah, Director of Business Empowerment at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, added that the government is encouraging the alignment of large companies’ needs with local vendors who possess the necessary legality and business readiness. He emphasised that partnerships must be realised, monitored, and guarded to ensure they do not stop at mere commitments. Collaboration between central and regional governments, associations, and the business world is also essential to expand MSME access to partnership opportunities.
IWIP’s spending on MSMEs has reached IDR 1.1 trillion. Yudhi Santoso, General Manager of External Relations at IWIP, stated that opportunities for local businesses remain open to meet various supply chain needs for IWIP and its tenants. These needs include food supplies, workwear, operational requirements, logistics, and transportation.
In the second quarter of 2026, IWIP’s procurement from MSMEs reached IDR 1.1 trillion, with 77.6 per cent of that spending occurring within North Maluku. “IWIP wants more local MSMEs to be ready to enter and sustain themselves within the industrial supply chain. We are opening channels for communication and cooperation, while encouraging entrepreneurs to strengthen their legality, quality consistency, competitive pricing, punctuality, and service,” said Yudhi.
He noted that these aspects serve as the foundation for long-term partnerships between companies and MSMEs. As a form of appreciation for partners growing alongside the company, IWIP presented awards to five MSMEs. PT Bangun Bumi Mahera received the Most Improved MSME Supplier award, CV Sritimas Agro Silvae was named Best Responsive Supplier, and CV Satu Tiga Berjaya received the Best Performing MSME Supplier award. Additionally, CV Semarak received the Best Local Community Impact Award, and CV Abadi Jaya received the Best Quality & Reliability Award.
In addition to opening market access, the event also encouraged synergy with the banking sector to expand financing for MSMEs that have secured market opportunities. Collaboration between the government, business sector, associations, and financial institutions is expected to increase the capacity of local MSMEs and expand the involvement of local entrepreneurs in the industrial supply chain in North Maluku.
