Jakarta – The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM has finally spoken out regarding business actors affiliated with the China Chambers of Commerce, who have complained and sent a letter to President Prabowo Subianto about the numerous investment barriers in Indonesia.

Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, considers this a normal matter in the context of providing input to the government.

“We see that as perfectly normal. They see the conditions with notes that pose challenges in this country, while also giving input to the government. We consider it a positive thing. It means there is serious investment intent from them,” said Todotua Pasaribu in Jakarta (12/5).

According to him, the government’s primary task at present is to create a conducive and competitive investment climate amid global competition.

He revealed that Indonesia still holds strong appeal in the eyes of global investors, supported by abundant natural resources, a large domestic market, and a strategic geographical position.

“This country has various types of natural resource potential, a large demand market with a big population, and a strategic region. We hope Indonesia becomes a destination for investment growth,” he said.

In addition, the government is currently focused on implementing the industrial downstreaming programme, which is one of the main agendas of the Prabowo Subianto administration. This programme is seen as capable of increasing the added value of domestic commodities while opening up new job opportunities.

Todotua explained that downstreaming does not only target the mining sector such as coal, oil, and natural gas, but also agriculture and other resources.

The hope is that the processing of raw materials can be carried out domestically so that economic benefits are not only enjoyed through the export of raw materials.

“Downstreaming is expected to enable commodity processing to be done here so that the benefits are realised, creating jobs and boosting economic growth,” he stated.

He also assured that the government will continue to open channels of communication with investors, including those from China, to maintain national investment stability amid various global challenges.
