BKN Launches Pilot Programme Allowing Civil Servants to Work Near Their Homes to Cut Costs

Head of the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) Zudan Arif Fakrulloh has launched a pilot programme allowing state civil apparatus (ASN) to work closer to their domiciles. The programme aims to save transportation costs, improve working comfort, and maintain productivity. According to Zudan, the programme is useful for reducing expenses incurred by civil servants (PNS) and government employees with work agreements (PPPK), particularly for transport, while creating a more comfortable working environment. He assessed that this policy is a step towards a more flexible bureaucracy oriented towards employee welfare. “BKN is bringing ASN closer to their families, to their domiciles. God willing, we will be able to bring our ASN closer,” Zudan said in a video uploaded to the official BKN Instagram account, Wednesday (22/7/2026). He explained that the initial phase of the programme is only being implemented within BKN as a pilot project. If the results are positive, the programme is expected to be adopted by ministries, institutions, and regional governments. “This is for BKN first, hopefully it can inspire ministries, institutions, provinces, and regencies/cities, so it can become a national movement,” he said. He further stated that the programme is a response to the concerns of ASN who have parental responsibilities and need more time to care for their children, as well as those who wish to reduce daily expenses while working. He noted that this cost-saving measure is crucial, especially considering the government is currently unable to immediately increase the income of ASN, both PNS and PPPK. “If husband and wife are together, they can save on plane tickets, kitchen expenses, electricity, and water. I understand that while I cannot yet increase incomes, it would be very wise if all leaders could reduce expenditure levels. So, we are starting to execute this programme,” Zudan said.
