BKKBN Provides Contraceptive Services for Disaster-Affected Residents
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Aceh National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) has provided contraceptive services to residents affected by hydrometeorological disasters in North Aceh Regency.
Head of the Aceh BKKBN Representative, Safrina Salim, in North Aceh, Thursday, said that the contraceptive services were a form of concern for the community affected by the flood in Riseh Baroh Village, Sawang District, North Aceh Regency.
“This service is an important part of maintaining the continuity of the family planning program in disaster-affected areas. It also helps mothers plan healthy and planned pregnancies even in disaster situations,” she said.
She said that the contraceptive services in disaster-affected areas were carried out in collaboration with the Ovolpe organisation. The service aims to support the fulfilment of reproductive health.
The contraceptive services were carried out at the disaster post in the village, involving health workers. As many as five acceptors received the insertion of one implant as a long-term contraceptive method.
Not only that, the Aceh BKKBN also distributed tools and contraceptives and reproductive health assistance packages to couples of reproductive age as well as groups of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and mothers with toddlers.
“The distribution is accompanied by education and counselling so that the use of contraceptives is in accordance with the health conditions of each acceptor, so that the benefits can be felt optimally,” she said.
Safrina Salim said that the services and assistance aimed to ensure that basic reproductive health needs are still met in emergency situations. It also provides a sense of security and support for women and children affected by the disaster.
“We reaffirm our commitment to continue providing responsive and sustainable reproductive health services, even in disaster situations, in order to create healthy and quality families in Aceh Province,” said Safrina Salim.
