BKKBN: PP Tunas Ensures Children Grow Up in a Safe Digital Ecosystem
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN states that Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) ensures that children grow up in a safe digital ecosystem. “PP Tunas is not intended to restrict children’s access to technology, but rather to ensure they grow up in a safe, healthy digital ecosystem that supports their development,” said Secretary of Kemendukbangga Budi Setiyono in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. Budi emphasised that the development of digital technology has outpaced the readiness of child protection systems, both at the family and community levels. Therefore, in the implementation of PP Tunas, the role and active involvement of parents are crucial. “The current digital space is not entirely designed for child rearing. Without strong regulations and active parental involvement, our children are highly vulnerable to exposure to harmful content, addiction, and mental health disorders,” he said. Therefore, Budi reminded parents not to be negligent in allowing their children to be freely exposed to the internet. In addition, threats such as cyberbullying, digital exploitation, and unsafe interactions in the virtual world are becoming increasingly complex and difficult to control without systemic intervention. Through PP Tunas, the government affirms several strategic steps, including strengthening the obligations of digital platforms to protect children, such as age-based access restrictions and encouraging the implementation of child-friendly and non-exploitative system designs. Furthermore, enhancing digital literacy as part of formal and non-formal education, as well as stricter oversight of circulating digital content. Budi also invited all elements of society to no longer view this issue as an individual concern, but as a shared responsibility. Collaboration between the government, schools, parents, and digital platform providers is the key to the successful implementation of this policy. “Family Planning Extension Officers must actively provide counselling, guidance, and support to families regarding this matter,” said Budi Setiyono.
