BKKBN Bali Representative Inaugurates Three Elderly Schools in Bali
Efforts to improve the quality of life for the elderly are being strengthened in Bali Province. The Head of the BKKBN Bali Representative, Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih, officially launched the Werdha Winangun Urip II Elderly School in Dalung Village, North Kuta District, on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
This programme is designed as a lifelong education platform for the elderly to ensure they remain healthy, independent, empowered, and happy. Held at the Dalung Village Office Meeting Room, the launch marks the beginning of an intensive learning series for dozens of senior residents in the area.
In her speech, Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih emphasised the importance of transforming mindsets when facing old age. According to her, being elderly is not a reason for sadness, but rather a blessing to be celebrated with gratitude.
“The elderly must be happy, independent, and empowered. Do not be sad to be elderly, but rather be happy and proud because you have passed through various life phases, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood. Being elderly is a blessing to be grateful for,” stated Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih.
Echoing this sentiment, the Head of Dalung Village, I Gede Putu Arif Wiratya, expressed deep appreciation for the support from Kemendukbangga/BKKBN in organising this programme. He hopes that the Elderly School will be able to produce seniors who continue to provide real benefits to their families and the surrounding community.
Participants of the Elderly School will undergo a learning process consisting of 12 sessions. The curriculum focuses not only on physical health but also covers a comprehensive aspect known as the “Seven Dimensions of Resilient Elderly.”
Through this curriculum, participants are encouraged to strengthen their spiritual faith, maintain physical fitness, manage emotions positively, and enhance intellectual abilities. Additionally, social community aspects, productive vocational skills, and the creation of a safe environment are also primary focuses of the learning process.
In addition to Dalung Village, on the same day, BKKBN Bali Province also inaugurated two similar schools in Gianyar Regency, specifically in Ketewel Village and Tampaksiring Village. This simultaneous step is part of the government’s strategy in facing the phenomenon of an ageing population structure.
“The simultaneous inauguration of these three Elderly Schools demonstrates a shared commitment to expanding access to lifelong education for the elderly and realising a healthy, independent, active, productive, and dignified elderly population in Bali,” concluded Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih.
