BKKBN and BPS Data Synchronisation Triggers Changes in Social Assistance Decile Status
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs has explained that changes in the decile status for some social assistance (bansos) recipients have been triggered by the process of consolidation, verification, and re-verification of the latest data received from BKKBN and the BPS Socio-Economic Census.
Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that the updating of national data is currently undergoing intensive processing at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) to produce more accurate poverty alleviation data.
“Recently, new data arrived from BKKBN that requires synchronisation, validation, and re-verification. This is currently being handled by BPS, which will eventually be integrated with the latest data from the socio-economic census,” said the Minister, popularly known as Gus IMB.
He explained that this integrated data consolidation step is in accordance with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto through Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 4 of 2025 regarding the Acceleration of Extreme Poverty Eradication, which mandates BPS to serve as the processing and verification centre for the National Single Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN).
Deciles are used as a ranking system to determine the socio-economic condition of a family. Deciles 1-5 represent poor to vulnerable-to-poverty families, 6-8 represent middle-income families, and 9-10 represent the upper class or wealthy.
Families within deciles 1-5 are the categories eligible for government intervention programmes, including social assistance ranging from the Family Hope Program (PKH), health insurance, basic food assistance (sembako), education, and more.
To ensure transparency and the accuracy of the decile data for social assistance recipients, the government has opened two channels for daily public participation in the updating process.
The first is the formal channel, where data proposals and corrections are made at the village level through the SIK-NG application operator, then forwarded through various levels to the Regency/City Social Services, Province, Ministry of Social Affairs, and finally to BPS.
The second is the public participation channel, which allows for community complaints through the Command Centre, WhatsApp centre, and the ‘usul-sanggah’ (propose-rebut) feature within the Ministry of Social Affairs’ Cek Bansos application.
He explained that the updating of data determining social assistance eligibility is conducted periodically: every month for BPJS Health Contribution Recipient (PBI) beneficiaries, and every three months for the Family Hope Program (PKH) and Basic Food Assistance.
“To prevent public misunderstanding regarding the indicators used to determine deciles, the Ministry of Social Affairs, together with BPS, is opening a space for open dialogue with experts to test the validity of the scientific criteria used in determining the welfare levels of the community,” he added.
