BKK urges returning hajj pilgrims to self-quarantine for two weeks
The Jambi Health Quarantine Centre (BKK) Class II has urged all hajj pilgrims who have returned to the country to undergo a two-week self-quarantine after arriving in their respective regions. Acting Head of BKK Class II Jambi, Dewi Juli Arta, stated on Friday that some pilgrims are experiencing coughs after returning from Saudi Arabia. This condition is generally influenced by fatigue following the 40-day hajj rituals and mild respiratory infections. She said the recovery period should be used for adequate rest, consuming nutritious food according to one’s health condition, and drinking plenty of warm water to restore the immune system. The agency also advised pilgrims to limit activities outside the home during the first two weeks after their return. Self-quarantine is still recommended even for those without health complaints as a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of spreading diseases that may have been contracted abroad. Dewi suggested that pilgrims who must return to work should only carry out necessary activities while adhering to health protocols. The use of masks is recommended if experiencing a cough to minimise the risk of transmission to others. “Pilgrims whose health complaints do not improve after two weeks or become more severe are urged to immediately seek examination at the nearest community health centre,” she said. The examination results will be reported hierarchically through the district/city health office to the provincial level, which coordinates with BKK Class II Jambi. Through this system, BKK continues to monitor the health condition of hajj pilgrims after their return to ensure rapid treatment can be carried out if indications of infectious diseases are found.
