Jakarta hit by earthquake: Jakarta was hit on Monday night by an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale. Rachmat, an official at the Geophysics and Meteorology Agency (BMG) earthquake center, told The Jakarta Post that so far there were no reports of casualties or damage caused by the earthquake. He said that its epicenter was near Panaitan Island in the Sunda Strait, adjacent to Ujung Kulon, Banten, at a depth of 46.65 kilometers below sea level. -- JP
