Biznet, an integrated digital infrastructure company in Indonesia, has implemented WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) from Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) on international routes via the Biznet Nusantara Cable System-1 (BNCS-1) submarine cable. The infrastructure enhances connectivity between Java, Sumatra, and Bangka islands.

This upgrade delivers 400G high-speed services, faster and more reliable internet connections, and supports Indonesia’s digitalisation by strengthening local-to-international network capacity.

Biznet President Director Adi Kusma said: “Amid an increasingly connected world, Biznet remains committed to delivering innovative services and optimal digital experiences for customers. We have long collaborated with Ciena, and Ciena’s WaveLogic technology enables us to uphold our commitment to faster, more reliable services that address current digital challenges and drive Indonesia’s digitalisation.”

Ciena Services and partner Terrabit Networks supported the design and deployment of Ciena 6500 devices based on WL5e to ensure seamless integration with Biznet’s existing fiber networks.

“In the AI era, internet connectivity is no longer just a necessity but a fundamental foundation for delivering fast, stable, and seamless digital experiences,” Kusma added. “Therefore, our network infrastructure development and connectivity enhancements with Ciena are strategic steps to ensure optimal service delivery.”

Biznet utilises Ciena Navigator Network Control Suite to manage network capabilities, including control, planning, and automation, resulting in more efficient operations and faster service provisioning.

Alex Wong, Ciena’s Regional Managing Director for ASEAN, stated: “Indonesia has become a connectivity hub in Southeast Asia, with high demand for high-capacity, low-latency networks rapidly increasing alongside the AI era.”

Through the BNCS-1 optical fibre submarine cable upgrade, Biznet now offers higher-speed services, optimises network spectrum efficiency, and supports long-term growth. This initiative continues Biznet and Ciena’s collaboration to develop networks across Indonesia, including Java, Bali, Sumatra, Batam, Bangka, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Flores. The partnership also boosts capacity on the Batam-Singapore route, supporting international gateway capacity, accelerating access to global services, and providing more stable and reliable connections for customers.
