Bitcoin (BTC) Price Rally Continues as Iran's 'Crypto Toll' Policy Triggers Surge
JAKARTA — Bitcoin (BTC) price surged significantly amid intensifying global geopolitical dynamics.
On Monday (13 April 2026), Bitcoin was recorded as rising around 6 percent to approach the $75,000 US level, driven by a massive short squeeze phenomenon triggered by the United States (US) blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Tensions escalated after Iran responded to the policy with an unexpected move, namely mandating a ‘Bitcoin toll’ payment for all tanker ships crossing the strategic route.
Vice President of INDODAX, Antony Kusuma, stated that the rise in Bitcoin and other crypto asset prices reflects the strengthening position of crypto in responding to global pressures.
‘The rise in Bitcoin’s price amid a combination of geopolitical factors, inflation, and market dynamics shows that crypto is increasingly viewed as an alternative hedge,’ said Antony in his statement on Wednesday (15 April 2026).
‘Phenomena such as the use of Bitcoin in cross-border economic activities signal that crypto adoption continues to grow, not only at the retail level but also in a broader global context,’ he added.
The use of this blockchain-based payment system is seen as a strategy to ensure transactions continue while avoiding international sanctions by leveraging financial systems beyond US reach.
On the other hand, inflationary pressures in the United States further strengthened sentiment towards crypto assets.
Data shows that US inflation (CPI) rose to 3.3 percent on Friday (10 April 2026), higher than the one- to two-year trend ranging from 2.4 percent to 3 percent.
This condition is driving investors to diversify into alternative assets like Bitcoin, while reinforcing the narrative of crypto as a safe haven amid pressures on conventional currencies.
At the $74,000 to $75,000 US range, Bitcoin’s strengthening is also supported by inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs reaching around $1.94 billion US throughout the March to April 2026 period.
This liquidity support is seen as strengthening the price structure and maintaining positive momentum in the short term.
