Bisri to be sworn in on June 5

JAKARTA: People's Consultative Assembly Speaker Amien Rais said on Thursday that Cholil Bisri would be sworn in as deputy Assembly speaker on June 5 replacing Matori Abdul Djalil.

Cholil would represent the embattled National Awakening Party (PKB) faction under the leadership of Alwi Shihab.

The news comes as a huge blow for Matori who is heading a splinter faction of the PKB.

Matori on Thursday said he would file a suit against Assembly leaders if they went ahead with the plan.

Matori was dismissed as PKB chief by PKB's patron and former president Abdurrahman Wahid after Abdurrahman was ousted from the presidency in July.

But Matori maintains he is still the legitimate chairman of PKB. -- JP
