At the grounds of Masjid Al Anshor in Sukarami Village, Bengkulu City, a Limousin cow weighing over one tonne drew the attention of residents gathering ahead of the sacrificial animal slaughter on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The cow named Bison is no ordinary sacrificial animal. It is one of 11 cattle donated by President Prabowo Subianto to the Bengkulu community. Bison’s physique stood out among the other sacrificial animals. Its large neck, muscular frame, and prominent muscles inspired its owner, Pendi Kurniawan, to name it Bison. For Pendi, the five-year-old cow is more than just livestock that sold for Rp120 million. Bison has become integral to his journey as a breeder, with his family’s livelihood dependent on cattle fattening. To secure the best stock, Pendi travelled to Sijunjung Regency in West Sumatra, a journey of several hours from Bengkulu. The calves were then taken to Mukomuko Regency for fattening until they grew into his standout livestock. According to Pendi, there is no special secret to raising high-quality cattle. The key is consistent daily attention. He maintains regular feeding schedules, ensures adequate rest, and keeps the cattle clean. Bison is bathed twice daily and fed three times to maintain peak physical condition. “When it’s feeding time, eat. When it’s sleep time, sleep. When it’s bath time, bathe. So it’s two baths a day, three meals. It’s like family,” Pendi said.
