Birth certificate fees

From Warta Kota

North Jakarta municipality head, Soebagio, has often said he would dump into a garbage bin all praise but will treasure criticism about the municipality administration's performance.

Unfortunately, for a birth certificate, an official in charge in North Jakarta's municipality demands between Rp 30,000 and Rp 40,000, while the original fee is only Rp 5,000. This means a rise of 500 percent to 700 percent. Other residents in North Jakarta, such as in Koja, Lagoa, Rawa Badak and Marunda, have also paid this unauthorized fee for birth certificates.

I had this unfavorable experience when processing a birth certificate in North Jakarta several years ago but I have learned that the practice is still going on now.

We have often complained about this matter to the municipality head and was promised that the delinquent official would be punished. In reality, the practice of collecting unauthorized fees is still going on today. NURHAIPIN LA MANNA
