CIANJUR, West Java: The makers and sellers of birdcages in
Cianjur, West Java, have complained about slack business
recently.

U'us, a 38-year-old cage-maker from Maleber village said that
the price of birdcages had dropped. "We've been familiar with
previous fluctuations in cage prices. But this time the price has
dropped by 100 percent."

The price of a birdcage varies, ranging from Rp 40,000 to Rp 1
million.

Another cage-maker in the village of Sayang, Andi, 20, said
that demand for birdcages had recently dropped.

People living in most districts in the regency of Cianjur
depend on the birdcage business for their living, therefore the
drastic drop in cage prices has had a significant impact on their
