Biosolar B50 Officially Launched, Prabowo: Indonesia the First Country to Implement

Biosolar B50 has been officially launched as part of the government’s efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia is the first country to implement a 50 per cent biodiesel blend in diesel fuel. “With the launch of this programme, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement the B50 biodiesel mandate,” Prabowo said at the launch event at Rest Area Km 57, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday (8/7/2026). Prabowo said this is not merely a technological achievement, but also proof that Indonesia can utilise its own natural wealth. “This is not just a technological achievement; this is proof that Indonesia is capable of utilising its own natural wealth for the benefit of its own people. This is a very important milestone on the journey towards energy independence,” he stated. The B50 programme mandates the blending of 50 per cent biodiesel into diesel fuel. This policy is one of the government’s strategic agendas to curb fuel imports, increase the added value of national natural resources, and strengthen energy and economic resilience. The government considers the implementation of B50 not just as increasing the portion of biodiesel in diesel, but also as a step to strengthen national energy independence, security, and sovereignty. The programme’s implementation refers to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 4 of 2025 concerning the Business and Utilisation of Biofuels, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree Number 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 regarding the obligation to blend 50 per cent biodiesel into diesel fuel. During the transition period, fuel supply business entities are given until 30 September 2026 to deplete biodiesel stocks with B40 specifications before fully switching to B50. The government has also ensured that the implementation of B50 has been prepared from technical, supply, distribution, and regulatory aspects. Testing has been conducted to ensure the performance, safety, and compatibility of B50 in various types of diesel engines.
