Biosolar B50 Officially Launched, Prabowo: Indonesia the First Country to Implement

Biosolar B50 has been officially launched as part of the government’s efforts to diversify energy while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia has become the first country to apply a 50% biodiesel blend in diesel fuel.

“With the launch of this programme, Indonesia officially becomes the first country in the world to implement the mandatory B50 biodiesel blend,” Prabowo said at the B50 biosolar launch event at the Km 57 Rest Area, Karawang, West Java, on Thursday (8/7/2026).

Prabowo said this is not merely a technological achievement, but also proof that Indonesia can harness its own natural wealth.

“This is not just a technological achievement; it is proof that Indonesia is able to utilise its own natural resources for the benefit of its own people. This is a very important milestone on the journey towards energy independence,” he said.

For context, the B50 programme mandates the blending of 50% biodiesel into diesel fuel. The policy is one of the government’s strategic agendas to reduce fuel imports, increase the added value of national natural resources, and strengthen energy and economic resilience.

The government views the implementation of B50 as more than just increasing the share of biodiesel in diesel. The programme is also a step towards strengthening national energy independence, security and sovereignty.

The programme’s implementation is based on Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 4 of 2025 on the Cultivation and Utilisation of Biofuels, as well as Decision of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026 on the obligation to blend 50% biodiesel into diesel oil.

During the transition period, fuel supply companies have been given until 30 September 2026 to exhaust their B40 biodiesel stocks before fully switching to B50.

The government has also assured that the implementation of B50 has been prepared in terms of technical readiness, supply, distribution and regulation. Testing was carried out to ensure the performance, safety and compatibility of B50 across various types of diesel engines.
