Bio Farma Seeks to Expand Indonesian Vaccine Exports to Latin America
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – PT Bio Farma (Persero) is targeting strengthened expansion of Indonesia’s vaccines and life science products into Latin America and the Caribbean. This move comes through Bio Farma’s participation in an economic diplomacy forum organised by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta last week.
The company participated in the 2nd Ambassadors’ Dialogue on Enhancing Trade and Investment Cooperation between Indonesia and Latin America and the Caribbean, where it presented business proposals to ambassadors and stakeholders from the region.
Fitri Puspadewi, Bio Farma’s Sales Director, said Latin America and the Caribbean are strategic regions for the Bio Farma Group’s international collaboration, particularly in vaccines and healthcare services.
“Bio Farma views international collaboration as more than just trade relations; it includes capacity building, technology transfer, and the development of sustainable health ecosystems. We aim to foster collaborations that benefit all parties,” she said.
She noted that Latin America and the Caribbean have growing healthcare needs and ample opportunities for long-term collaboration. Bio Farma recognises shared challenges among nations in expanding healthcare access, enabling cooperation through a mutual needs-based approach.
The Bio Farma Group has already established collaborations with several countries in the region, including through routine supply mechanisms via the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and bilateral partnerships with nations such as Argentina, Mexico, and Peru via Phapros.
During the forum, Bio Farma showcased its capabilities as a national life science company with experience in vaccine and healthcare product development, production, and distribution. Beyond its product portfolio, the company highlighted its R&D, manufacturing, quality systems, and global partnership experience.
Fitri believes collaboration opportunities with Latin America and the Caribbean remain vast, spanning vaccine and life science trade, technology transfer, joint research, and strengthening manufacturing and healthcare systems.
“Events like this open new collaboration opportunities and provide deeper insights into international market needs. Engaging with global stakeholders is crucial for expanding networks, driving innovation, and enhancing Bio Farma’s international competitiveness,” she said.
The forum, held at the Nusantara Room in the Foreign Ministry’s main building, was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno, Andre Omer Siregar (Deputy for Investment Cooperation), Danantara Mohamad Al-Arief (BPI’s Managing Director for Global Relations & Governance), and Bernardino Moningka Vega (Vice Chairman for Foreign Affairs of Kadin Indonesia).
Alongside Bio Farma, other national companies presenting business proposals included PT Pertamina Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi, PT PLN Indonesia Power, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, PT Astra Otoparts Tbk, Polytron, and FKS Group.
