Jakarta (ANTARA) – PT Bio Farma (Persero) has once again affirmed its commitment as a state-owned enterprise (SOE) that not only focuses on business performance but also on delivering direct benefits to society. This is marked by receiving the PROPER Award with Gold status for the 10th time at the PROPER Environmental Awards and Environmental Management Performance for the 2025 Performance Year. At the same event, Bio Farma also received the Green Leadership award for the first time, recognising the company’s leadership in consistently and integrally promoting environmental sustainability in its business processes.

The awards were presented directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of the Environmental Control Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, to Bio Farma’s Director of Finance and Risk Management, Jeffri Susanto.

In his speech, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that PROPER will continue to transform in the future, not only as a ranking event for company performance but also with functions of environmental supervision and law enforcement.

“This year, the implementation of PROPER is carried out differently from previous years, because in 2026, PROPER will begin to transform, not only focusing on giving ratings or ranking performance, but also having a function as supervision and law enforcement. Furthermore, PROPER will not be conducted by the Ministry of Environment alone, but will also be supervised by local governments,” said Hanif.

At the event, Hanif also expressed appreciation to all companies that have shown commitment to maintaining environmental sustainability. He specifically emphasised the importance of contributions from PROPER Gold recipient companies, which are assessed as capable of delivering tangible benefits to community economic development, both directly and indirectly.

Bio Farma’s Director of Finance and Risk Management, Jeffri Susanto, stated that this achievement reflects the company’s commitment to integrating sustainability principles into its business processes, while strengthening Bio Farma’s role as an SOE that is present to provide tangible benefits to society.

“This 10th PROPER Gold achievement and the first Green Leadership award we received are the result of the commitment and consistency of all Bio Farma personnel in integrating sustainability aspects into the company’s business processes. For Bio Farma, this success is not merely recognition of company performance, but also a reflection of our responsibility as an SOE to ensure that the company’s presence provides tangible benefits to society, protects the environment, and supports sustainable development in Indonesia,” said Jeffri.

In the 2025 PROPER assessment, Bio Farma highlighted two main strengths: eco-innovation in vaccine production processes and the community empowerment programme in Kampung Berseka, Padaasih Village, Sumedang, West Java. On the environmental aspect, Bio Farma implemented innovations based on life cycle assessment in production stages that are impact hotspots. The programme includes Smart Heat Integration Condensate Flash Steam Reutilization for Boiler Feedwater Heating, Hydrooboost Cleaning Pipe (HYPE), and Seamless Automated Load Transition for Emission Reduction.

Through these innovations, Bio Farma has achieved energy efficiency of 3,452 GJ per year, water savings of 155 m³ per year, and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 1,617.5 tons of CO2 equivalent per year. These achievements demonstrate that the company’s environmental commitment goes beyond compliance, translated into measurable and impactful operational innovations.

At the same time, sustainability at Bio Farma is also realised through Kampung Berseka, a programme that shows how the presence of an SOE can strengthen community capacity, create economic added value, and improve access to basic services. In this programme, Bio Farma nurtures the Teuweul Bee Farming Community by improving the quality of honey and propolis products, strengthening business legality such as NIB, halal certification, and PIRT, as well as developing product diversification from honey pressing residues into propolis and its derivatives. The programme also involves young people in digital marketing through social media and marketplaces.

From a socio-economic impact perspective, the technical presentation notes that the programme has driven an increase in Teuweul Farming Community members from 18 to 25 people, involving 12 youths, raising the selling price of honey from around Rp170,000 per litre to Rp440,000 per litre, and elevating the added value of propolis derivative products. At the same time, the company’s interventions also target basic community needs through improvements in clean water access and irrigation. The programme’s benefits reach 227 households in 5 hamlets for clean water, with expansion of pipelined beneficiaries to 274 households in 6 hamlets, as well as supporting irrigation for 192 hectares of agricultural land.

According to Jeffri, this is the important meaning of the existence of SOEs in the midst of society, not only creating economic value for the company but also delivering broader benefits through improving quality of life, environmental preservation, and sustainable community empowerment.

“For Bio Farma, sustainability is not just about meeting standards, but is part of the company’s responsibility to deliver sustainable added value. We want to ensure that every innovation and every business process carried out not only supports company performance but also strengthens the state’s presence through SOEs that provide tangible benefits to society, the environment, and Indonesia’s future,” added Jeffri.

This 10th PROPER Gold and Green Leadership achievement further affirms Bio Farma’s position as an SOE that
