BINUS University Launches Scholarship to Strengthen Commitment to Producing Impactful Talent for Indonesia
Indonesia possesses many young talents with growing potential across various fields, yet access to quality higher education remains uneven. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the country’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for higher education currently stands at around 31.45 per cent, while the government is targeting an increase to 38.04 per cent by 2029. This indicates that many secondary school graduates are still not continuing to tertiary education, necessitating collaboration from various parties.
Responding to this challenge, BINUS University has launched the BINUS Scholarship for the 2027/2028 academic year, a programme that supports young Indonesian talents in developing their potential in various fields, from academics, sports, and digital creativity to leadership and social contribution.
BINUS University Rector Dr. Nelly, S.Kom., M.M., stated that through the BINUS Scholarship, the university aims to open more opportunities for Indonesia’s young generation to grow and prepare for the future. “BINUS Scholarship is not just tuition assistance, but an opportunity for young Indonesian talents to thrive in a learning ecosystem that is relevant to the future. We want every student to have the space to develop their academic potential, character, leadership, and creativity so that they are not only ready to face change but also capable of providing solutions and making a positive impact on Indonesia,” said Dr. Nelly.
The press conference also featured inspirational stories from three scholarship recipients representing the diverse potential of Indonesia’s young generation, ranging from sports and academic achievement to digital creativity. Their stories demonstrate that the right opportunity can be the first step for young talents to continue growing through education.
Keira Hadinoto, a recipient of the Student Athlete Scholarship, shared her experience of balancing dual roles as a student and an athlete, which demands discipline and consistency. “Every training session and competition taught me the meaning of discipline, while education helps me prepare for the future. This scholarship has made me more confident to pursue both without having to choose one. I hope more high-achieving students will dare to take opportunities like this. For me, education and achievement are not just about pursuing personal dreams, but also about equipping myself to one day contribute to Indonesia,” Keira said.
Similarly, Akmal Insan Purwandha, a recipient of the Widia Scholarship, shared that the scholarship serves as encouragement to continue learning and developing himself. “Receiving this scholarship makes me very grateful because it is not only a personal achievement but also a source of pride for my family. The support and prayers from my parents are one of my greatest strengths to keep striving and giving my best. This opportunity further motivates me to continue learning, developing myself, and one day making a positive impact on others and Indonesia. I also want to encourage my peers not to hesitate to try for any scholarship opportunities, because every effort and the courage to try can open the path to a better future,” said Akmal.
Meanwhile, BINUSFLUENCER Scholarship recipient Almeyda Nayara admitted that the programme motivated her to continue using digital creativity positively and responsibly. “I started everything from an interest in creating content and sharing things I enjoy. Throughout the process, I always communicated every step and opportunity to my parents. Their support, trust, and blessing made me even more confident to continue developing my creativity positively. I never imagined that this journey would open up the opportunity for me to obtain a scholarship. For me, creativity not only opens doors for myself but also becomes a way to present positive, inspiring content that can have an impact on more people,” said Almeyda.
