Binus Kemanggisan Auditorium Fire Extinguished, 70 Personnel Deployed

Firefighters from the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service Sub-Department (Gulkarmat) deployed 14 units, comprising 70 personnel, to extinguish a fire on the fifth floor of the Auditorium at Binus Anggrek Campus in Kemanggisan, Palmerah, on Friday.

The incident occurred at 05:30 WIB. ‘We deployed a total of 14 units comprising 70 personnel,’ said Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations at Sudin Gulkarmat Jakbar, speaking to reporters at the scene.

By 10:00 WIB, firefighting had moved into the cooling phase.

‘The situation is now in overhaul (final stage). So we have checked all areas burned in the auditorium; we have completed inspections, overhaul, cooling,’ said Syaiful.

He added that hotspots remain to be extinguished, particularly in the ceiling area on the 5th floor.

‘There are still embers, not large, just small. We have dismantled the ceiling, opened everything, checked the corridor. There are no large hotspot points,’ he said.

To date, the cause of the fire remains under police investigation. Fire authorities have not yet been able to identify the ignition point, as thick smoke had filled the entire room when crews arrived.

‘Yes, not yet. Because when we arrived, the condition on the 5th floor was that the smoke was already full, very thick. So we had to enter using breathing apparatus, then we carried out firefighting and looked for hotspots. The ignition point was somewhat difficult to find due to the smoke,’ said Syaiful.
