The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is opening new opportunities for the younger generation to develop technology-based products, services, and business models. However, the ability to use AI must be balanced with an understanding of user needs, critical thinking skills, and the ability to develop technology into solutions that possess economic value.

In Bandung, known as a centre of creativity, the advancement of AI presents an opportunity for the youth to transform ideas from mere works of art into innovations that can be applied within society and industry.

This necessity is one of the reasons BINUS University is expanding access to AI education through the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Programme at BINUS @Bandung on Tuesday (8/9/2026) at the Paskal Campus, BINUS @Bandung.

The programme is part of ‘AI Empowers @ BINUS’, which integrates the understanding and utilisation of AI within the learning ecosystem. Students are not only directed to use AI technology but are also taught to understand its development and application in a strategic, ethical, and responsible manner.

For BINUS University, technological advancements mean that the needs of the workforce no longer focus solely on technical abilities. Students also need to possess communication, collaboration, and business understanding skills, alongside experience in working on projects related to industrial requirements.

The Rector of BINUS University, Dr Nelly, S.Kom., M.M., stated that the expansion of the Artificial Intelligence Programme is part of an effort to prepare the younger generation to utilise technological developments to produce innovation.

“The expansion of the Artificial Intelligence Programme is part of BINUS University’s commitment to providing wider opportunities for the Indonesian youth to master future technologies. We want them to not only be users of technology but also to be capable innovators who provide solutions and deliver a positive impact to society,” said Dr Nelly.

At BINUS @Bandung, the Artificial Intelligence Programme is also linked to a Creative Technology Entrepreneurship approach. This approach connects creativity, technological mastery, and entrepreneurial skills so that students can develop ideas into innovations that hold utility and economic value.

The Director of the BINUS @Bandung Campus, Dr Johan Muliadi Kerta, S.Kom., M.M., stated that the development of AI provides opportunities for the younger generation to transform creativity into technology-based innovation and enterprises.

“Bandung possesses a young generation with very strong creativity and a courage to experiment. Through the Artificial Intelligence Programme at BINUS @Bandung, we want to help students develop that creativity into technology-based innovations that have value, are applicable, and have the potential to become business opportunities,” said Dr Johan.

According to him, the development of an idea needs to be supported by the ability to understand market needs, build solutions, and create value for users. Therefore, students are not only directed to produce works but also to possess an entrepreneurial mindset to bring innovation towards wider application.

From an academic perspective, the curriculum of the Artificial Intelligence Programme at BINUS University is designed multidisciplinarily, combining foundations in mathematics, data science, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, as well as the Internet of Things and robotics.
