Bintan to have 28 new hotels

PEKANBARU, Riau: At least 28 four and five star-rated hotels
will be built on the fast-growing Bintan island over the next ten
years, a local tourism office said yesterday.

"In addition, 13 golf courses with 18 holes each will also be
built to help promote tourism on the island," chief of the Riau
provincial tourism office Fadlah Sulaiman said.

There is only one five star hotel on the island at present and
the increasing flow of tourists, especially from Singapore, which
is only one hour from Bintan by ferry, overwhelm the existing
hotels.

The 28 planned hotels are expected to absorb no less than
12,000 workers, Antara reported. (pan)
