During the recent school vacation I took my family to Bintan
island, Riau, to relax. I was really impressed by the great
change that has taken place on the island. This bauxite-rich
island has now become a real tourist attraction of international
standard.

It all started when I read a news report about the white sand
along the beach of Bintan island. President Soeharto actually
dedicated the tourist area on that island on June 18, 1996.
Managed by a joint venture company (between Indonesia and
Singapore) -- PT Bintan Resort Corporation -- Bintan island will
hopefully become one of the much sought after tourist attractions
in this country.
