Bima Residents Block Road with Bamboo Over Babinsa’s Expected Transfer
The Tente-Parado road, at Sakuru village in Monta district, Bima regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), was blocked by residents. The provincial road was closed because residents objected to the planned transfer of Sakuru village non-commissioned officer (Babinsa), Serka Sulaiman.
Photos and videos circulating on Facebook showed residents blocking the road with bamboo poles laid across it. Several motorbikes were also parked in the middle of the road, briefly disrupting traffic.
“The road blockade took place this morning,” resident Wahidin, 40, told detikBali on Sunday (18 October 2026).
He said residents had shut the road as a protest after hearing that Serka Sulaiman would be transferred to a new posting.
“Residents spontaneously blocked the road after hearing the information that Sakuru’s Babinsa was to be transferred,” he said.
He said most Sakuru residents did not want Serka Sulaiman to move. They regarded him as a good person, and said that since he became Babinsa, Sakuru had been safer and crime had been reduced.
“Since Pak Serka Sulaiman arrived, juvenile delinquency and drug distribution have both declined. He has been very firm in his work as Sakuru’s Babinsa, particularly in guiding young people,” he said.
“That is why residents are unwilling to let him move elsewhere. He is the best Babinsa and is loved by Sakuru residents,” Wahidin added.
Sakuru village head M. Suharto confirmed that the road had been closed. He said the blockade in front of the village administration office lasted only briefly and the road had since reopened.
“The road was closed only briefly. It has now reopened and vehicles are passing through,” he said.
To prevent further action, Suharto urged residents to respect the relevant institution’s decision to transfer Serka Sulaiman. He said blocking the road was not a solution and instead inconvenienced other road users.
“We hope there will be no further road blockades,” he said.
