The Bima Regency Legislative Council (DPRD) office in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was nearly gutted by fire. The legislators’ office is suspected to have been the target of arson. This suspicion arose after police discovered oil-soaked cloths at the scene, believed to have been used to start the fire.

“The incident occurred last night,” said Bima Kota Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, First Inspector Mochamad Fikri Dafa Alfarez, when confirmed on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

The incident began with a report from a resident who saw sparks on the roof of the DPRD building’s main hall on Tuesday (11/8/2026) evening. Following up on the information, officers immediately went to the crime scene.

“When we arrived at the location last night, the Bima City Fire Department team was already at the scene and had successfully extinguished the sparks,” Fikri explained.

Based on initial investigations at the scene, Fikri revealed that his team found suspicious objects and materials. These included colourful cloths soaked in flammable oil.

“At the scene, we found three oil-soaked cloths with a strong oil smell. One had already burned, while the other two had not,” he stated.

Regarding the incident, Fikri added that his team is still conducting further investigations. In addition to securing the evidence, the three oil-soaked cloths, officers have also questioned several witnesses who first saw the sparks.

“We are currently deepening and further investigating this matter. We have already examined several witnesses who were at the scene at the time,” Fikri concluded.
