Relatives of the victims revealed the modus operandi of Islamic boarding school (Ponpes) leader RS, who allegedly sexually abused 10 students in Belo District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). RS was not alone; teacher SY was also involved in the case.

The alleged abuse case came to light after several victims mustered the courage to speak to their parents, prompting others to come forward.

“The case emerged from victims sharing their experiences, which were then disclosed to their parents,” said a relative of the victims, AD.

According to AD, RS and SY allegedly committed the acts while students were asleep in the dormitory. The abuse is suspected to have occurred repeatedly over many years, though victims initially remained silent due to fear.

“It has been happening for years, repeatedly. The victims chose to stay silent out of fear,” he said.

AD hopes the police will thoroughly investigate the sexual abuse case within the Ponpes. The case is currently handled by Bima Police.

“We hope the law is enforced and justice is served for all victims,” AD added.

Bima Regency UPT PPA Chief Muhammad Umar stated the case was known since April. UPT PPA is providing psychological, physical, mental, and spiritual support to the victims.

“The victims spoke up after sharing their stories with each other, leading families to report to Bima Police for legal proceedings,” Umar said.

“We are providing support. Otherwise, the victims’ mental and psychological health could be compromised, especially as they are still children,” he added.

RS and SY were arrested and detained by Bima Police since 9 May. They are suspected of sexually abusing 10 students, mostly in Year 7 and Year 9.
