Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto is promoting the implementation of Work From Home (WFH) policies for Civil Servants (ASN) as part of efforts to achieve efficiency and a new model of state governance.

During a review of WFH implementation at Bekasi City Hall in West Java, Bima Arya explained that this policy is aimed at creating a more effective, efficient bureaucracy oriented towards real benefits for the public.

“The principle of efficiency is not just about reducing dependence on international fuel supplies, but also involves a transformation in work culture, a new work ethos, with everyone getting accustomed to it and heading in that direction,” said Bima on Friday (10/4).

This efficiency measure represents the government’s commitment to maintaining fuel price stability to avoid burdening the public, particularly lower and middle-income groups.

Bima stated that the state budget (APBN) and national fuel availability remain secure, with import dependency affected by Hormuz Strait dynamics remaining relatively low.

“For the President and the current government, prioritising citizens, especially the lower and middle classes, is very important to maintain,” he said.

Addressing potential disruptions to public services, Bima assured that essential services will continue to operate optimally. Critical sectors such as the Environmental Agency, Water Resources, fire department, and Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) will remain fully operational. Meanwhile, services at sub-districts, villages, and licensing will continue with a maximum of 50 percent of staff working in the office.

To maintain ASN discipline during WFH, the government is implementing a strict monitoring system through digital performance reporting and location tracking. Sanctions will be imposed on ASN who fail to carry out duties as required, as well as on officials negligent in supervision.

On the same occasion, Bima also appreciated the readiness of the Bekasi City Government (Pemkot) system, which recorded a WFH participation rate of around 40 percent of total ASN. He urged Pemkot Bekasi to immediately calculate the amount of budget efficiency, particularly from savings in fuel, water, and electricity usage.

Additionally, Bima positively assessed the Bekasi Mayor’s policy encouraging ASN to use public transport and bicycles. In the future, he hopes for the expansion of public transport based on electric vehicles to more significantly support national energy efficiency.

“Actually, if the electric vehicle scheme focuses on public transport, the impact will be far more significant, and that is what was actually initiated by the President recently,” he concluded.
